A former local police officer faces criminal charges for allegedly tampering with evidence

WEST CHESTER, Ohio (WKRC) – A former West Chester police officer is facing criminal charges following an investigation.

Michelle Burling was charged with three counts of tampering with evidence and one count of unauthorized use of property. They are accused of a serious crime.

The department learned she may have violated the law and police policy in August, according to West Chester spokeswoman Barb Wilson.

After the investigation, the department contacted the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation to look into the allegations. Berling was placed on administrative leave.

Her case was presented to a grand jury, which handed down an indictment this week.

The township has not released the charges against Burling, but they allegedly involve unauthorized access to an Ohio law enforcement portal.

Burling resigned on Oct. 28, Wilson said.
