Philly’s pun competition returns to Helium Comedy Club for its 2nd anniversary

Around 11 a.m. on the last Sunday of the city Open streets of the city centerAaron Schwartzbaum stood outside the entrance to Rittenhouse Square, donning a sandwich board and asking people if they wanted to hear a pun.

“Free play on words. Free jokes about dad. Free puns,” he offered to people passing by.

Many politely said no. A few people completely ignored him. But those whose curiosity was piqued could choose a topic, and Schwartzbaum improvised a hilarious line.

The Eagles were playing the Buccaneers a few hours later, so a lot of people were thinking about that, their jerseys and caps. Schwarzbaum had several ready-made options for this likely category.

“Why did Jalen Hurts go to Moscow?” he asked.
