A South African football player surrendered to the police after a fatal accident

A South African soccer player will be charged with manslaughter and reckless and negligent driving after allegedly fleeing the scene of a fatal car crash that killed a young woman, local police said.

Sean Mogaila, 29, of Sekhune United, allegedly crashed his BMW into a car carrying an adult woman and two children in Gauteng province on Wednesday morning.

As a police representative told local news site IOL, the nine-year-old boy was “pronounced dead at the scene.”

Mr Mogaila handed himself in at Raby Ridge Police Station a few hours after the accident.

The player was expected to appear in the magistrates court but there was a delay, a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) told the news site. SowetanLive.

Currently, a woman and a 13-year-old boy are in the hospital.

Sekhukhune United has yet to comment on the incident.

A dash cam video of the crash went viral on social media, with many people expressing their outrage.

“That’s what scares me about driving right now, the fact that I can get in a car and drive safely with my family and still die,” said one X user.

However, some came to the footballer’s defense and praised him for surrendering to the police.

“You who are busy condemning Sean Mogaila, let’s hope you don’t have cars, you have no idea what happens once you cause an accident, no one even gets hurt, the poor guy gave himself up later when he regained consciousness. ” said another X user.

Hours before the accident, the player was participating in a game against Richards Bay at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, Limpopo.
