Authorities are searching for a man who jumped into the Detroit River Thursday morning

The U.S. Coast Guard is searching for a man who jumped into the Detroit River early Thursday morning.

Authorities are searching for a man who jumped into the Detroit River overnight and has not been seen since.

Crews from the Detroit Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard set out Thursday morning to search for the missing person, turning on search lights on patrol boats and police units along the river.

There were also marked police cars with lights on along Jefferson in downtown Detroit and other emergency vehicles stationed on other banks along the river.

It is believed he may have entered the water somewhere along Atwater Street, but due to strong currents it is unclear where he may have drifted.

As the cold water temperature increases the danger, authorities are nervous about the conditions the man may be in now.
