Airing

So what stands out about this structure that emerged from the wilds of Whistler, BC? The key advantage is ease of setup. Connect it to the included AirBank pump and you can inflate the entire unit in less than two minutes. But this is not all that we think.

Another cool feature eliminates perhaps the second biggest problem with camping, which is that sleeping on the ground or thin padding can be uncomfortable. The AirNest features an integrated removable wall-to-wall mattress that inflates simultaneously via a separate valve, meaning the soft sleeping surface is ready to go when the arch appears above your head.

We wouldn’t say the AirNest can be used as a boat, but it does float.

In addition to packing its own mattress, the AirNest boasts a rather unique feature: since the entire package is inflatable, you can take it out on the water for a little respite from the hot sun. As long as it’s not the one only a floating tent is that Cosmic Acacia, GP tested is another notable floater – it does take up some, um, thin air.

Editor’s note: The Kickstarter page goes to great lengths to specify that any water activity should be casual in the calm waters of lakes and ponds, not rivers and oceans — and not at night.

The AirNest also boasts a zippered/removable vestibule, internal gear storage pockets, and a number of durability-focused features. These include fully taped seams, waterproof 50D polyester construction, 210D Dacron shells and, crucially, a 420D nylon underbelly to ensure your bed won’t be punctured by misplacement on, say, an awkward root.
